PENCIL

The work shown in this section is among Martin's earliest and was completed between 1970 to 1980. Some were for college class projects. During this period he worked primarily with charcoal or graphite pencils.

Yet in these early works, his technical skills and artistic sensibility are evident. He refined his rendering technique, his compositions became more intricate and his subject matter gained a psychological complexity.
