OILS |
AFTER Martin studied with artist Martha Mayer Erlebacher in 1989, he worked almost entirely in oils. He expanded the size of his paintings and perfected his technique of building layers of translucent glazes over a monochromatic underpainting. Martin also delved more deeply into his mythological and dreamlike themes. Although whimsy, humor and colorful animals continued to populate his work, sexual imagery and the dark power of nature often lurked nearby.
