Morning Grace, 1991

Morning Grace is perhaps Maddox's most fervent and beautiful evocation of woman and vegetation. The cosmic depth of space and the saturation of sunlight with its power to transform insist on the luminous and sacred qualities of growth and harvest. The extraordinary detail revealed by the fold of dawn light embodies the full mystery of existence itself.

Fair Game, 1990

The strength and independence of modern woman are again revealed in Maddox's Fair Game. In The Sacrament of Abortion, Ginette Paris states that the role of killer has been sanctified and made heroic for men in the imagery of soldier and hunter. Maddox assigns the task to a woman in her thirties, maybe forties, but emphatically not a nubile maiden. She poses holding the horn of a slain deer, confident in her functional clothing and relaxed with her weapon, In the unifying light of the sunset she radiates self-assurance and looks at us with neither embarrassment not apology for her recent deliberate action.
